How do your prices compare to the prices of brick and
vinyl?
While prices vary from market to market, this is how Hardiplank
siding compares in installed price with its competitors
- More expensive than Vinyl
- Less expensive than Brick
- Equal or less than Hardboard Siding
- Less expensive than Synthetic Stucco
Do I have to paint Hardiplank siding?
Yes, Hardiplank lap siding is required to be painted.
For best results use Hardiplank with our exclusive PrimePlusTM
factory prime system along with one top coat of 100% Acrylic Paint. If
factory priming is not being used, Hardie recommends the application
of one top coat of alkaline resistant primer and one top coat of 100%
acrylic paint. For spcecific recommendations, please refer to JH
Technical Bulletin No. S-100 or contact the Paint Manufacturer for
their specifications. Hardiplank with the PrimePlusTM
system is required to be painted within 120 days of installation.
Hardiplank unprimed is required to be painted within 90 days of
installation.
Do you require a weather-resistive barrier behind Hardiplank
siding?
James Hardie as well as the Model Building Codes (UBC, Standard,
etc.) require the use of a weather-resistive barrier. It is good
building practice.
What types of trim can be used with Hardiplank siding?
The following are suitable trim products for use with Hardiplank
siding:
- Fiber-Cement
- Real Wood
- Engineered Wood
- Vinyl
- Coated or Corrosion-Resistant Aluminum
What are the "K" and "R" values for
Hardiplank siding?
"K" & "R" values are listed in the
product brochure and the NER-405 Report (See
Table 4).

Can Hardiplank siding be applied to metal framing?

How close to the ground can I install Hardiplank siding?
Model Building Codes (UBC, Standard, etc.) require that exterior
sidings be installed with a minimum 6" clearance of soil. This
will allow for clearance when soil is back filled against the
foundation and footings.
What type of weather-resistive barrier is required?
Any weather-resistive barrier complying with the Model Building
Codes (UBC, Standard, etc.) is acceptable.
